Geogard Ultra is a preservative designed to meet your needs. Preservative Geogard Ultra helps provide broad-spectrum, gentle protection against bacteria, molds, fungi and yeasts in your water-based cosmetic formulations.

Geogard Ultra is a gluten-free fermented food starch derived from non genetically-modified corn.

Gluconolactone is used in the food and cosmetics industry as a moisturizer and antioxidant. Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA) found in its final state in honey bees. It is generally considered appropriate for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Because of its ability to condition and hydrate the skin, formulations containing gluconolactones can improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Food grade sodium benzoate is a preservative with bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties under acidic conditions.

Test the pH of your finished product, it should be in the range 3-6 so that this preservative is effective. You can use sodium citrate or sodium phosphate to stabilize the pH.

CAUTION: Avoid using this preservative in formulations containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or citric acid.

Due to its heat stability, Geogard Ultra can be added to the aqueous phase at the beginning of the mixing process.
Geogard Ultra can also be added during cooling in the final phase. Note that it should be pre-dissolved in a part of water.

Appearance: white powder, soluble in water and glycerin.

Recommended use rate: 0.5 to 2%.

Geogard Ultra is ECOCERT approved and can be used in certified organic cosmetics.
