Non-GMO Soy Lecithin

Appearance: Dark amber liquid of honey consistency, characteristic odor.

INCI: lecithin

Derived from soybean extraction (Glycine max) - Soybean Gum

100% lecithin of vegetable origin (extracted from non-GMO soya beans), unmodified, non-hydrogenated. Dark amber viscous liquid.

Soluble in oils, partially soluble in alcohols, dispersible in water. HLB value approx. 4

Recommended rate: 2 to 5% of the total weight of your preparation, to be introduced in the oily phase.

soy lecithin is very interesting for homemade cosmetics, it acts as an emulsifier and allows you to prepare a day cream, for example, without heating your products. The advantage of not heating is to retain all the vitamins and active ingredients of cosmetic ingredients. Lecithin also has many benefits for the skin.

Soy lecithin will serve as a natural emulsifier to stabilize a preparation that combines water and oil. In addition to its composition, lecithin is also very beneficial for the skin because it will provide essential fatty acids and trap water.

Soy Lecithin allows “oil in water” emulsions above all, but also water in oil “using a high proportion of oily phase and a wax. Designed for all types of skin, particularly dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin. It has a good affinity with the skin because the polar lipids (phospholipids and glycolipids) constituting lecithin are similar to those which form the membranes of our cells.

To be used as a cold emulsifier: allows emulsions to be formed at room temperature, must be stabilized with xanthan or Guar gum in aqueous phase. Co-emulsifier: allows to stabilize emulsions in combination with another emulsifier. Soy lecithin makes it possible to modify the texture by providing a very silky feel and a rather fluid texture in addition to its emollient side by softening the skin and film-forming by preventing dehydration of the skin by protecting it from aggressions such as cold, wind, humidity or drought.

Soy Lecithin allows you to make a cold emulsion. It is thus possible to preserve all the properties of the cosmetic ingredients, in particular the hydrosols which are very fragile. It is a very good moisturizer, lecithin can trap up to 10 times its weight in water, allowing it to pass the skin barrier. It nourishes the skin and provides a long-lasting moisturizing effect because it contains essential fatty acids. Soy Lecithin will help protect the skin and limit dehydration through its film-forming properties

Benefits:

Natural emulsifier and dispersant.
Excellent water retention capacity preventing moisture loss.
Good emollient and softening property.
Controls the texture of your emulsions.

Example as the only emulsifier:

- Add soya lecithin to the oily phase, and mix well to dissolve it.
- Prepare the aqueous phase by adding a gum, soilt the xanthan gum or the Guar gum at a rate of 0.3 to 0.5% to stabilize and thicken the emulsion. Allow the gel to form.
- Pour the gelled aqueous phase into the oily phase and stir vigorously for at least 5 minutes.
- Add the preservative and the active ingredients once the emulsion is well formed.

Note that without a gum in the aqueous phase, it is difficult to stabilize an emulsion in which soy lecithin is the only emulsifier. To obtain a stable emulsion, we recommend that you use 5% soya lecithin and add 0.3 to 0.5% Xanthan or Guar gum in the aqueous phase.

Soy lecithin can be used very well in combination with another emulsifier and provides a rich and silky feel.

Note: It is best to avoid heating soy lecithin for too long as, like a vegetable oil, it can be prone to oxidation.

Here is a natural recipe, simple and easy to make.

With the only emulsifier, Soya lecithin:

Lemon Chamomile Moisturizer

Step 1 - Water phase:

- 32 gr of water or Chamomile hydrosol
- 0.5 gr of Xanthan gum

Step 2 - Oily Phase:

- 2.5 gr of Soya Lecithin

- 15 gr of Chamomile macerate

Step 3 - Additions:

- 0.2 gr of Cosgard preservative

- 10 drops of lemon essentilla oil

Method:

- Mix the aqueous phase in a bowl and whisk well until a gel is obtained. Put aside.

- Mix the Oily phase in another bowl and whisk everything well until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

- Transfer the Oily phase to the Aqueous phase and whisk well for several minutes until a fluid and light cream is obtained.

- Add the Cosgard and Lemon essential oil and mix well again.

- Transfer to your small pot

Result: Very nice light and fluid cream leaving the skin soft and silky without leaving a greasy film.

Note: You can customize your cream to your liking. Simply choose vegetable oil and hydrosol according to your choice. You can also add your favorite assets to it. For additions soluble in water, add them to the Aqueous phase. For oil soluble additions, add them to the Oily phase. For the other assets, add them in step 3.
